Solly - Mundon Church, Essex

By George Solly

This article was originally published in the August 2001 edition of Soul Search, the journal of The Sole Society.

Mundon Church, Maldon Essex is where my great great grandfather John is buried plus others. I took this picture in 1970 when it was still a (derelict) church - it's now a private home I believe.

My 3x great grandfather, Richard, moved from Faversham to Essex in the early years of Victoria's reign. I guess Richard's son Richard kept a diary and on 3rd October 1875 writes of his brother Thomas' death. Thomas was the eldest brother to my great great grandfather John.

Friday 1st (cont) It might not be so.
Saturday 2ndShowery & Mild Thomas wished me to call upon Messrs Buck & Freeman as Thomas seemed to think that John being his Exor in case he survived Thomas he could not hold Vardy(?) land. Thomas by a Codicil to his will empowered him to do so. John thought it might be done by letter signed by Thomas. If John should choose to take it Thomas named to a 7 years form at £40 per annum
